I love Andy Warhol's illustrations for Christmas cards that were commissioned by Tiffany & Co. during the late '50s up to 1962. Much like his gorgeous inky jazz album covers, I find their simplicity and freshness really charming.
Here are just a few.
Delightful, aren't they?
Have a good one - and thank you for everything! x
And likewise to you, C.
ReplyDeleteHope yours is happy and peaceful. I've started on the Scotch already. Cheers!
DeleteAll the best to you and Mr. SDS for the holiday season, C!
ReplyDeleteThe cards are lovely.
Glad you like the cards too, Marie. Christmas wishes winging their way to Canada now :-)
DeleteHappy Christmas C and Mr SDS.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Christmas break SA.
Delete'Andy Warhol looks a scream hang him on my wall'
ReplyDeleteHappy Christmas C. Eat, drink and be very merry.
Nice one! I will, you too!
DeleteBetter looking than any I received C
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you and yours
Same here! And to you and yours CC, hope you get some time off work now.
DeleteWishing you a Merry Christmas C. Never seen these images by Warhol before. Thanks for introducing me to new things(as usual!)
ReplyDeleteAnd to you, Chris, I imagine Christmas in Denmark is very atmospheric. I think Warhol's early illustrations are often quite surprising to those who haven't seen them before. They're still very of their era, aren't they?
Delete@C: Christmas Eve is a big deal over here and when presents are opened. For dessert (as in most Danish homes) we eat Risalamande(rice pudding with cream and chopped almonds). It's quite fun but sometimes the full almond that offers the prize gets eaten by mistake! :) I assume when you say atmospheric you are referring to "hygge"-a Danish world which is now trendy in the UK
DeleteInteresting, thanks! I like the way there are many differences in tradition depending on where you are. I was thinking perhaps you have colder weather (any snow at the moment?) and how we tend to associate Christmas with that imagery so it conjures up something more Scandinavian. Here it's unseasonably mild, it doesn't feel very much like December/Jan at the moment.
DeleteYou're welcome. Denmark had the first white Christmas Eve since 2012 this year but has melted again and fairly mild now. We tend to have longer winters than the UK. Yes, snow is very christmassy :)
DeleteMerry Christmas to you too, Yve, and I hope the new job is going really well for you.
ReplyDeleteHaha, yes... and the tree gets its 15 minutes of fame too.
Season's Greetings to you C and MrSDS.
ReplyDeleteLovely cards.
Keeeeep blogging :)
And to you too and Mrs Darce - please keep blogging as well!
DeleteYou always share some great Christmas images at this time of year and here are a few crackers - From the '50s you say, yet timeless.
ReplyDeleteHope you and Mr SDS have a lovely Christmas Day - We've made it to another festive season on the blogosphere and wouldn't have been possible without this lovely group of bloggers who take the time to read our posts and leave great comments. We are blessed.
Thanks Alyson, I like to find alternative visuals where I can!
DeleteHad a nice low-key Christmas, thanks - hope yours was good too. Agree with all you say about the blogosphere too.
Much better than the cards I sent out this year. Merry Christmas, C. My best to you and Mr. SDS.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the images Brian. Hope you and family have had a lovely time this Christmas too.
