Time in...

...perhaps you'll know where?!

this one (above) is for Singing Bear :-)

I loved it.

  2. I claim my free prize, - you're in my old stamping ground of Bristol.

The top shot is just up the road from where I used to buy groceries and do my laundry. The long-lost Greyhound pub was also there, - I remember helping to drink the bar dry, the night it closed.

I used to live down the hill from the multi-coloured terrace too. We used to go up there to watch balloons from the Hot Air Balloon festival flying past.

    Cheers for the memories.

  6. I thought it would be very familiar to some of you (Darcy and Hugh - good to know - and t must be a great place to live/have lived!) and that a few photos would be enough to confirm!
I'll post more words and pics from this lovely trip soon I hope.

  7. What can I say? Home. I know all those spots very well indeed. Banksy? Well, he's OK. I adore Christmas Steps. used to got there a lot years ago when it was very neglected but had a really very musty bookshop that smelled of piss and a great joke shop. You never know when one of those palm buzzer things might come in handy and as for pretend dog poo - hours of fun! The Granary is such a fine building and home to some great memories thanks. Glad you made it up to Clifton Village. I could go on for days - but won't.

    1. Meant to say that I used to live just across the main road from the Academy of Arts place pictured. My only time amongst the 'knobs'. Much fun to be had.

    2. I knew these would resonate and I'm so glad to rekindle some good memories. It seems to me that the city sparks a lovely loyalty from all those who've lived there - and I can understand why. I walked around so much and still didn't see or experience half of what I'd have liked to, but I'd really like to go back!

  8. I hitched back from Bristol to Oxford when I was 18 and had been to see some band, I enjoyed the time that I spent looking around the city more than their performance, a facinating place.

  9. I've been staring at that sixth picture and I'm intrigued. I've seen Boer War monuments but our man there looks like Camel Corps or Mounted Infantry from the Gordon Relief Expedition...which was a flop. If it had been a disaster it could have been mythologized, given the Charge of the Light Brigade treatment but it was just an embarrassing episode. Still lots of hard fighting by enlisted and officers alike so good to see him there.

The rest is just seems quaint and pretty and all around lovely.

    1. I thought you'd notice him, Erik. I found this link about it:
      http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Gloucestershire/BristolGlosRegtBoerWar.html

I picked these photos as being quickly recognisable to anyone who already knows Bristol, but I tried to get a few shots which are more abstract, so may post them in future too.

    2. At least my instincts were good...Boer War then.

I blew about an hour on that site and I'm not done with it. Thanks

  10. Hi C, good to have you back. I have only been to Bristol once, on our way back from Glastonbury. It's looks lovely, may have to go back and have a proper visit. My post Glastonbury visit was spent in a pub where we couldn't escape some bloke who was telling us all about local 'blood wars'. Love the third picture down.

    1. Thanks Scott. I hope you get a proper visit some day... mine definitely wasn't long enough so spending it in a pub with a dodgy geezer certainly wouldn't be!
I'm reliably informed that the building, third pic down (the Granary), used to be a music venue.

  11. Hi C,
Glad to hear that you had a wonderful time - I love the pics! It sounds like you had quite an adventure on your solo trip, and I'm looking forward to hearing more about it. Won't be back 'til Saturday, so no new posts until then - I'll be in touch. ;-)
