Are you up for an extra helping of puzzle solving nonsense as we trudge through these dark December days? Following in the wake of my fellow bloggers and the joyous challenges presented by Rol, Ernie, Alyson, John and Martin I thought I'd put a little something together too. Alas, my days of genetic engineering in the form of Mystery Lovechild are probably over (for those who remember - I hope the nightmares have passed). It was very labour-intensive as, to keep track of exactly which features were whose, I did it all manually and methodically. Maybe I'll revive them one day in true Dr Frankenstein style but for now they rest (un)easy. So, as a replacement visual puzzle, I wondered about this. Every picture below is a small section of an album cover and all you have to do is identify it. Please feel free to suggest your answers in the comments, and also, do let me know if you think it's too easy or too hard (I just can't tell!) - and if you would like some more?
Answers to be uncovered next Tuesday. Hope you enjoy!

Excellent. Love this! Although on first pass I've only got 7 nailed down. Thinking to do.......
ReplyDeleteThanks Martin. It's so hard for me to see them objectively myself, probably a bit like your lyric puzzles - easy when you know, but coming in cold is a different matter!
DeleteUp to 10 now, but struggling.
DeleteI recognise a couple:
ReplyDelete2. Bush
5. Fairport
8. Blondie
10. Bowie
20. Roxy
JM
9. Eagles
DeleteJM
Thanks John - and in order to keep whatever little suspense there may be, I shall neither confirm nor deny at this stage! (Presume you have your album titles in mind too?)
Delete11 Billy Bragg?
ReplyDeleteThanks CC - as this is a bit of an experiment at the moment, I shall keep schtumm for now!
DeleteThis is all I can manage, though I know there are some kick-selves here....
ReplyDelete1 Lemonheads - It's A Shame About Ray
2 Kate Bush - The Kick Inside
4 Prince - Purple Rain
6 Marvin Gaye - What's Going On?
8 Blondie - Autoamerican
9 Eagles - Hotel California
10 David Bowie - The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars
11 Billy Bragg - Life's A Riot With Spy Vs Spy
12 Talk Talk - The Colour Of Spring
15 Abba - Abba
16 Ash - Meltdown
20 Roxy Music - Avalon
13, 14 and 18 are going to bug me all day.
DeleteI go along with Martin, plus....
ReplyDelete3. Deep Purple - In Rock, 5. Fairport Convention - Unhalfbricking, 7. Siouxsie & the Banshees - A Kiss in the Dreamhouse, 14. Julian Cope - Fried, 17. Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde, 18. Massive Attack - Protection, St Etienne - Fox Base Alpha.
13 has me well and truly stumped!
That's 19. for Fox Base Alpha.
Delete13. Pet Sounds
ReplyDeleteI think that's all now
But I would only have got about half in total. So my answer to your question is: Not too easy but you need to ban Martin and TS
DeleteWell spotted Ernie. As my old Nan used to say, I couldn't see for looking.
ReplyDeleteMartin was way ahead of me to be honest. He identified four that I wouldn't have got.
I probably need to get out more.
DeleteOh thanks for playing along, all - I'm most impressed at the answers and speed! I'll "officially" publish them next Tues and, all being well, will have some more to solve at the same time. Having great fun doing them.
ReplyDeleteI'm late to the party I'm afraid (but I've been having a busy week). Scrolling down I was really chuffed to think I'd got the one no-one else did, Beach Boys - Pet Sounds, but my old nemesis Ernie got there first.
ReplyDeleteWith these puzzles, if you snooze you lose!
Well done everyone and well done C for putting it together.
Thanks Alyson, and well done on Pet Sounds particularly! I know it's a busy time for you, so thanks for coming by tonight too. I wasn't sure how to do this so thought I'd just put it out there and see what happens, and the answers have come in very quickly!
DeleteTune in next Tuesday for another one, though (not that I think it'll be a regular feature but something to keep the posts coming in the run-up to Christmas at least.)
Me, a nemesis? Never! I am merely a humble courtier at the throne of the Quiz Queen.
DeleteI got 3 on first looking but was clearly way too late for this one! Good fun though, thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks Belinda, I just couldn't tell if they would be solvable or not as I was too close to them, but I'll have to see if I can remember what they are in about a year's time - probably not!)
DeleteThere will be another set next Tuesday when I confirm the answers, if you get a chance to look then.
Sadly, since the powers that be made it virtually impossible to read blogs at work (not that I'd ever do that anyway, of course), I'm always late to the party these days. Still I had fun this afternoon identifying these... got #1, 2, 4, 9, 10, 14, 17 and 20 immediately. Except I got 20 wrong, because I thought it was the Bunnymen.
ReplyDeleteI'm just gad you still had fun with it, that's the main thing - and great identification on those ones. (I do the same with Saturday Snapshots when I'm too late - just look at the pics/clues before scrolling down at the comments and always enjoy it regardless!)
