Six!

An artist's impression of a mojo

Mojos come and mojos go.  Mine seems to go missing with alarming frequency and I’m sure that somewhere out there a mountain rises up, stacked high with all the ones we have lost, rotating at different speeds, their multiple colours mingling in a psychedelic whirl.  (That's how I see mojos, but I may be confusing them with yoyos.)

I’m full of admiration for those many dedicated bloggers who keep hold of theirs and come up with something new every day; I know it’s no mean feat and not something I could do.  That said, this blog has somehow managed to make it to six years old today (and more than 450 posts!)  How did that happen?!

When it was just a mere baby (on its first birthday) I posted…

I had no idea quite what I was doing when I tentatively chose my template, figured out something to do with widgets, typed my first post and, with my heart in my mouth, clicked on ‘publish’.

I don’t think that much has changed, I still have no idea quite what I’m doing - but I like doing it whenever I can.  And to everyone who’s ever taken the trouble to have a look/read/listen, especially if you’re still doing so and have been kind enough to comment, a very big thank you - I really appreciate it!

x

PS Today's birthday jamboree bag contains some things on the theme of six:

Sneaker Pimps: Six Underground

A Six Spot Burnet moth

The Prisoner: Number 6 badge

Detail from my beetle print blouse
(seeing as they're six-legged...)

Remember this?

6 is a 'perfect number', mathematically,
because when you add up all the number's divisors
(a number by which it can be divided without leaving a remainder)
it equals the number itself.
I.e. 6 can be divided by 1, 2 and 3.
1 + 2 + 3 = 6.
Perfect numbers are rare.

(Any mention of maths on these pages is also rare)

    1. Any inspiration is very mutual.
I think we all help to keep each other going too, and I'm always glad to see your mojo still working!

  2. C,
A hearty congratulations! I can't claim to be one of the cool kids that found you six years ago, but I have really enjoyed my time here. My one piece of advice... make sure this never feels like work. Life is difficult enough. The glass is raised. Here's to many more posts at Sun Dried Sparrows.

  5. Well done on making it to your 6th birthday - only found your blog relatively recently but always enjoy what you share with us. No sign of loss of mojo to me but I think we all suffered a bit at the start of the year. The number 6 of great importance to me as I was 6 on 6/6/66!

Bit late here with a comment but in the big smoke at the moment - Mr WIAA just won a gold and a bronze at the craft oscars - No award for La La Land here!

    1. Thanks, I can't believe it's six years... seems a long time. Glad you found me when you did, as you helped to spur me on at that time. A few more frequent posts lately but it dpes tend to come in fits and starts.

I love that 6 thing going on with you - how strange and brilliant! Must be your lucky number?

And great news about Mr WIAA's successes - hope you've had a fab time and that you'll tell us more on WIAA. Glad no mix-ups with the awards...

    2. That Bar 6 picture has been driving me mad - I am now craving one and they apparently just don't exist any more (despite my best efforts!).

    3. Oops, sorry - but you're not alone! We'll have to make do with Kit Kats...

  6. Happy Birthday Sun Dried Sparrows - it's quite a milestone! May there be many more to come!

Your posts are still very interesting and original, so the rumours about your mojo going missing are nonsensical!

  9. Happy blog birthday C. Always a pleasure reading your varied posts. Particularly enjoyed sharing a walk with you recently.

My mojo's been a bit flighty lately. I wonder where they go? Do they get together I wonder and have a good laugh at our expense?

Those Six Spot Burnets - not easy to tell them apart form the Five Spots, although they do give you a chance by posing. There is another day flying moth called the Burnet Companion which looks nothing like a Burnet but gets its name due to the fact it is often found hanging around the Six Spots (or Five Spots).

    1. Thank you! I like the idea of a meeting of mojos going no somewhere and, yes, I'm sure I can hear the laughter from here...
Thanks for the info about the Five Spot and Burnet Companion moths - I didn't know about them. I've seen a few Six Spots and never fail to gawp at their beauty and brightness. Now I'll be looking out for the others. (Great to know you're into insect life as well!)

  12. Well done on your six year blog anniversary! You've built up quite the readership over that time.

I have a soft spot for Sneaker Pimps' 2nd LP Splinter. For me, there's more vulnerability and raw emotion in Chris Corner's delivery than Kelli Dayton's vocal work on Becoming X. Six Underground is a memorable tune though.

I've been thinking about the number 42 recently, bonus points if you can guess why.

    1. Thank you Chris - readers come and go, things change, but that's okay - I like the fluidity of blogging!
I don't know Splinter, as only have the Becoming X album - but I know Chris Corner's voice from the Ten To Twenty single which I love. I'm a fan of Kelli's solo work though.

The number 42, eh.... I'm wondering if perhaps you'll be celebrating a birthday soon?!

    2. I'm not familiar with the solo work of either Chris Corner or Kelli Dayton, I'll look them up!

The number 42 is important in The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy. I just watched/reviewed the 1981 tv-series.

    3. Kelli uses the name Kelli Ali for her solo work (just in case you weren't aware).
Ah, I'd forgotten about the Hitchhiker's Guide!

  13. I am in awe of your commitment, 450 posts , amazing! They are usually quite substantial too as well as obviously well thought out, not a dashed few lines. I have particular enjoyed seeing your art work and reading about you influences and like John Medd love seeing that a new post is up.
(Bar 6, that takes me back, so much nicer than Kit Kats!)

    1. Ah thank you CA, that's so lovely to know and much appreciated. It's funny how a blog becomes both a welcome outlet (for my 'voice') as well as a welcome inlet (to hear other people's!) Connecting is a big part of it for me.

Yes, my memory of Bar 6 is that it was more substantial all round, a proper chunky one!
