It's great (sorry for such an unimaginative adjective) - one of those that just gets better the more you hear it, the more you tune into the detail, the mood, the femininity.
Whilst I'm not a music blogger as such, I don't have a lot to say on other subjects right now, so will just keep to the song and keep it brief today. 'Did You See Butterflies?' is the new single; it's gorgeous (shades of Lush and Stereolab, as mentioned by others before) and I know that because I'm in love with it, I just want you to be as well! Funny how music has that effect, but it's a good thing.
I did see a butterfly yesterday too.... not many around here just yet.
Jane Weaver: Did You See Butterflies?
Thanks for sharing as like you I am not really a music blogger as such, I just wanted to have a nostalgic trip into the past and music definitely triggers memories. This has come up already this week on another blog but the mainstream radio stations I have always listened to are now playing mainly oldies (and I feel as if the demographic they are aiming at is the generation above mine) so it has been a joy over the last year to discover new artists I would probably never have heard of had I not found you all! Quite an etheral sound here with shades of late '60s psychedelia which I always like. Will remember the name now.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alyson - oops I hadn't seen it on another blog this week but I guess that's often a likelihood when something is new and there are similar tastes. I'm sure it will continue to crop up as it's only been out for about a week I think.
DeleteLike you, I'm very grateful too to many bloggers for introducing me to lots of other great music I might not have stumbled upon, so it always feels nice to do it too and share whatever is floating my own boat at the moment!
Yes, I like the ethereal sound here. There's an imaginative description of Jane Weaver in the blurb on the plastic wrapping: "...Here we find a model student of second-hand Kraut-rock, female punk, new-wave, synthesiser skip-finds and unpronouncable worldly feminine pop who's finally reached her eureka moment"....! She's been making music for a long while but it's only in the last year or so that I've been more aware of her - had to buy the new album after I'd heard the previous single from it.
Music will always be a part of this blog but I've not been in much of a writing mode lately so hopefully will have more to flesh it out soon! Look forward to your next post too.
Oops - No I confused you! I didn't mean the song had cropped up on another blog I meant the issue of not hearing new songs on the radio, which had cropped up over at Rol's place earlier in the week. From the description you quote above about Jane Weaver however, I totally get why you like her so much.
DeleteI've been down to one post per week myself since the new workplace situation kicked in but you'll never guess what - It's not as bad as I thought! The hot desking is just not happening and everyone is still using stationery, calculators, folders etc. Problem is with no desk drawers or shelves it's even more cluttered than ever - Oh the irony!
Oh yes, I see what you meant, sorry! Yes we had both read Rol's radio post. Radio 6 is probably the best place to hear new stuff that's a bit left of centre, and even Radio 1 (esp. Annie Mac in the evenings) has introduced me to new stuff I've liked, but I'm not very good at listening to the radio at home, only in the car, and as I don't go out in the car very often it limits me.... so I've come to use blogs as one of the best sources!
DeleteOh that IS ironic about your work situation - but so heartening! People are still being people, you can't turn us into machines just yet, it seems. I'm pleased to know you've still got your beloved stationery! Maybe it'll only be a matter of time before it slowly starts to change back again, knowing how cyclical so many things can be... So pleased to hear it's not as bad as you thought anyway!
I think 'Modern Kosmology' is a beautifully understated album, steadily revealing its delights to me a little more with each play. So glad that you're a fan too! That being the case, you really should check out this... http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p053zjqp
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely agree! Soon after the first time I played it I had some of the themes going through my head already, so they had really got in there. Each time I've played it since it just gets me more and more and, as you say "reveals its delights to me" (lovely way of putting it!)
DeleteAh thanks so much for the link - looks good - I'll look forward to giving that my undivided attention tomorrow!
I keep getting new things from it with each play.
ReplyDeleteYes, me too. Love it when that happens. I'm pretty sure I heard her for the very first time over at your place, so thanks!
DeleteMy pleasure. That's what music blogging is all abiut.

Yep, great works. The comparisons to Lush and Stereolab are spot on. Keep the music coming.
ReplyDeleteThanks Brian - there are such good music bloggers out there in(yourself included of course!) that I leave most of the solely music related stuff to you, but it's a very big part of who I am too so always good to include some when I can. And I love it when hearing something new and feeling that irresistibly strong urge to share it.
