Andy

Long-time friends of this blog will know that I lost a very dear friend, who also happened to be a close neighbour, last year.

Whilst personal memories live on in our own minds, when someone is as creative and special as he was, it's really meaningful for those who knew them to see their talents continue to be celebrated and shared in their absence with a wider audience

So I just wanted to spread the word, as I'm aware many of you may already know his sleeve artwork from your own record collections, that there is a lovely feature about him/interview with brother Matt in the new edition of Classic Pop (issue 29) - available from all good newsagents from today.

In loving memory of Andrew ('Andy Dog') Johnson

    1. Thanks so much SB. I should be sitting in his garden with him on a day like today (I've got a free afternoon!), drinking tea and eating Maryland cookies, watching the swallows swoop into what we fondly called The Garagio to feed the young in their nest there and having a little moan about the guano. And the state of the world!
So in my mind I still am.

    1. Thanks SA - it's a lovely tribute, much like the new song is.

  3. I knew you had lost a dear friend earlier this year but didn't know it was the person who had created so many album covers that even I recognise. Will look out for that magazine. Wonderful to leave such iconic work but so sad that he was taken so young. Big (virtual) hugs.

    1. Ah thank you Alyson. He was so talented but had opted for the quiet life, happy to withdraw from all that, hence we shared a great enthusiasm and love for nature as well as art and music (although had so much else to talk about too). Not sure what he'd have made of any fuss being made about it now! He was modest about it... In fact I think he got a bit fed up with so many points of reference going back 30 years and was far more excited by what he was drawing in the present and had planned for the future. But, for me, it's just lovely to see and hear any tributes, it's all part of his legacy. Knowing him through his horrible illness was probably the hardest thing I've ever gone through and of course I miss him terribly, so the mag article is really heartwarming.

  4. Will look out for that one C. I've seen so much warmth expressed for Andy here and elsewhere - in addition to being a remarkable artist, he was clearly a lovely guy.

    1. Thank you TS. Yes, it's true, a lot of love for the man, and deservedly so. Just wish it could be in other circumstances, but life is a bitch that way. Glad he was in mine when he was.

    1. Oh such a lovely thing to say, Brian, thank you. And yes the legacy is always here. It's been over a year now - but the tribute in the magazine and the new The The single is bringing it all back into very sharp focus again right now.
