What's this?
Found this little chappy on the wall today:
A soft furry lovely caterpillar.
I guess he's looking for somewhere safe and warm to spend the winter before he pupates next Spring. By the magic of metamorphosis of course, which absolutely blows my tiny mind, he'll later become a beautiful Garden Tiger moth. Wow. Talk about re-inventing yourself.
He needs a soundtrack too. Something fuzzy and raw, I think. A little rough around the edges. But are there any fuzzy, raw, rough around the edges songs with caterpillary connections?
Yes!
Downliners Sect: White Caterpillar
The only songs that come to my mind is an old surf number called 'Caterpillar Crawl', it probably had some nutty dance associated with it too, and Captain Beefhart's 'Smoking Stones And Beatle Bones because a 'strawberry caterpillar' is mentioned in it. :^)
ReplyDeleteWe have small dark fuzzy guys on our walls in the springtime but don't seem to get any in the fall way over here. The last hummingbird was a couple of weeks ago now, but there was a deer friend here the other day.
Oh 'Caterpillar Crawl' would have been great too - I just checked it out (The Strangers) and love it (thank you).
DeleteI'm very envious of you with the hummingbirds!
Nice pics of the little fellow. Good song, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, SB. I was pleased he even seemed to be looking up at me in the first shot :-)
DeleteYes, what a sweetie! I moved him off the wall and put him under the hedge. Fingers crossed I see a garden tiger moth next year...
ReplyDeleteNow there's an idea...
ReplyDeleteI guess 'Caterpillar' by The Cure is a bit obvious...and not very rough round the edges come to think of it! I think you selected the perfect tune - brilliant pics too!
ReplyDeleteThanks! There can't be many songs that mention caterpillars but I reckon we've covered most of them here... (Oh and 'White Rabbit' I suppose, but that's just getting confusing!)
DeleteCan't some furry caterpillars poison you or something - I remember an outbreak in Ashford last summer...
ReplyDeleteI think all native hairy caterpillars can give minor rashes so I'd be careful not to touch with bare hands, but I believe there have sometimes been migrant moths whose caterpillars have caused more serious allergic reactions in some people. Approach with caution!
DeleteStill cute to look at, though ;-)
When You Sleep - My Bloody Valentine.
ReplyDeleteI get a lot of white ones in my smoking area.
Hmm...I don't think I know a single MBV song!!
DeleteIn your smoking area? Now I just imagine hookah-smoking caterpillars, joining you in a gesture of solidarity :-!
Oh no ma'am. We gotta fix that.
DeleteI have caterpillars, bumble bees, lizards and these tiny bugs that gather trash and lent at cammoflauge. I feel like I'm tokin' on a hookah sometimes.
Real (wild)life: stranger than fiction I reckon.
DeleteWhere I take my dogs a walk near to a salt lake there are at the moment hundreds of similar beasts but with no hair...centipeady type things. If you go near them or touch them they curl up immeiately into what is like a wheel...it's great fun!!
ReplyDeleteThey sound cute, OPC!
