'Tis the season to be arty

Well, it wouldn't be Christmas around these parts without posting some slightly less than conventional Yuletide pictures!

Hoping to improve my concentration levels next year and be a bit more present on the blogs, I've been very neglectful....  In the meantime, here's wishing you a happy, peaceful festive time and thank you for everything.

  1. The first one is fantastic, and prompted me to go looking for other cards with Erte's designs. I found this one which will definitely be getting ordered for next year:

Thanks for providing a cultured corner of the internet (and in particular the book recomendations). Have a great Xmas.

    1. It's gorgeous, isn't it? He's appeared on these pages before but I hadn't seen that particular image, however for a few more here's a previous post

      - and I love the Snow Queen cards you spotted, beautiful.

I'm honoured that you should think of this as a cultured corner - think that applies far more to yours than mine but I'll take it, thank you! Very pleased to have been able to recommend the recent book too.
A very happy Xmas to you x

    1. Haha, yes it does! It ticks all my aesthetic boxes, that's for sure, I could just look at it for hours.
Wishing you a very happy (fucking stylish) Xmas x

  3. That’s weird, I posted lots of comments across blogs including yours at lunchtime and only half of them seem to have published (!)

At the risk of repeating myself if my previous response is in a spam filter and ends up here later, I love all of these selections but the first and last nudge it as my favourites.

Thanks for a great year of posts, C, a real inspiration. And thanks for your regular visits and kind words over at mine, always greatly appreciated.

Have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!

    1. Oh Khayem, how frustrating, I think this has happened before and the Spam Detectors are picking on you for some reason, but you'll be pleased to see this one got through.
Thanks for your kind words; I've not been very active either posting or commenting generally lately but keep hoping I can be more productive in future. However it's just lovely to know you've enjoyed whatever has made it through!
A very happy Xmas to you and yours x

  4. Was just thinking this afternoon it wouldn't be Christmas without a roll call of unusual Christmas cards from you. Agree with everyone about the first but I am also fond of the Christmas tree hat as well. Was also thinking if you had only posted the cards then a muddled up list of artists we would probably have been able to match them. A quiz for another year perhaps?

Anyway, it's Christmas Eve, so wishing you and Mr SDS a very happy day tomorrow. Hope you have a good one.

    1. I couldn't let the event go by without some imagery - think I've run out of those creepy Victorian cards with dead robins and man-eating carrots! Argh, if only I'd thought about the quiz aspect too, what a great idea. Next year, as you say...
Late replying to this so of course hope you had a really good Xmas, you surely deserve it x

  5. Love all the images. I have visited lots of galleries with Marc Chagall’s work. What was going on in his mind when he did his stuff. It keeps me in bemusement whenever I see a giant rooster , donkey etc. Merry Xmas C.

    1. Thanks Ben, yes, as you say - what was going on in Chagall's mind? I love that we get a glimpse inside it. Hope you had a good Xmas too x

    1. They are, aren't they, I love the alternative imagery. I love the first one here by Picasso in particular and found quite a few more by Dali... something for next year perhaps (with Alyson's quiz idea if I remember?)
Hope you had a lovely Christmas and a chance to relax after a busy year x

    1. I love seeing these other works by well-known artists, which are less familiar. The simplicity of the Hopper one is especially appealing, I think.
