Through the magic door

Yesterday evening, on my lone walk through fields and thickets, having climbed over stiles, snaked through kissing gates and played hide-and-seek with the jackdaws, I came across a mysterious doorway.

It set my imagination alight.

What would you want to find if you stepped through this doorway?  Would it be a portal to the past, or to the future?  To the inner pages of a long-lost book, or a scene in a black-and-white film?  To a dream... abstract and transient, but full of meaning?

I know what lies behind it...

But it's terribly boring, so I won't spoil your fantasy!

St Louis Union: Behind The Door

  1. I know where it should lead to...

Tho' the fact you were able to write this post would mean that you are still sharing the same dimension as us mere mortals.

    1. The nettle stings would also prove it, sadly.

  2. I find the overgrowth equally fascinating and ominous. As if nobody has passed through either side of that door for many years. This song would fit in nicely on Odyssey and Oracle by the Zombies. I quite like it.

    1. Yes, and I just love the way nature reclaims and overtakes things, fascinating.
Agreed about the song - also the fact that Dave Tomlinson from the band went on to be in Magazine, as Dave Formula. (I think that's him on the far left of that cover pic.)

    2. Sorry, C. We're talking at cross purposes! I'll get my coat.

    3. No worries! Just to be clear: Dave Tomlinson/Formula: St Louis Union - Magazine. No Zombies involved, unless there are some on the other side of that door...

  4. Just rewatching the Beeb's recent adaptation of His Dark Materials, and can imagine that as a door between worlds...

  5. The image reminds me of the book Slade House by David Mitchell. The doorway appears in an alleyway, but only for certain people...

    2. Ah, something else for me to check out I think. I wonder if I'll ever catch up!

  6. Yes C, this is great. I love doorways and portals. And Brian's right, the growth suggests it's not been opened for a while.

    1. I love them too. I think it must be decades since it's been opened... and it's not too far from some ancient overgrown gravestones too (which also fascinate me!)

  7. Intriguing indeed especially as it seems no-one has opened that door for an awful long time. I'm thinking back to old productions of The Secret Garden on telly, but just too obvious really. You're going to have to do a follow-up post telling us what is behind the door - Wear a pair of waders and use a periscope or pretend you're at a festival and get Mr SDS to put you on his shoulders!

    1. The Secret Garden is exactly right - loved that series (and also the book). Haha, love your suggestions. If only there was some PPE going spare... ;-)

  9. So true, Yve. All too depressing, we need a parallel world. Lovely to see you again too by the way!
