I don’t like football so the idea of a fantasy football
league doesn’t mean a thing, but ‘fantasy cover versions’? Love it.
Thanks to Martin at the excellent blog New Amusements, I’ve been
ruminating over ideas for these all week…
Please take a look at his introductory post to
see what it’s all about and his first suggestion - anyone can join in.
I’ve picked something I’d love to hear covered by an artist I particularly admire, which is due to feature on New Amusements next week.
And Rol from the brilliant My Top Ten has come up with something truly inspired.
Please go drop Martin a line via his blog if you fantasise about such things too. I'd love to see more.
Dear Mr Fantasy, play us a tune
Something to make us all happy
Do anything, take us out of this gloom
Sing a song, play guitar, make it snappy
Do anything, take us out of this gloom
Sing a song, play guitar, make it snappy
(One for Paul Weller to cover, perhaps?!)
Thanks for the heads up C. I emailed Martin this afternoon with my 'cover version'.
ReplyDeleteAh that's great. Hope to see your choice soon.
DeleteThanks for reminding me about Martin's series C. Now you've got me thinking.....
ReplyDeleteGo on - hope you do - would be lovely to see what you think of.
DeleteThank you. C, for the plug.it has generated lots of traffic, another submission and some new comments. Thank you! Now get Mr SDS to send in his suggestion...or you could do it by proxy ;)
ReplyDeleteAh, pleasure. I'll have another word with the Mr!
DeleteSomewhere, once upon a time, Davy H of the late lamented The Ghost of Electricity mentioned what would have been his toppest fantasy cover version: Roy Orbison covering Some Candy Talking. This, I think, is such a mindblowingly good suggestion that I couldn't possibly think of another one.
ReplyDeleteWow, an interesting and unexpected blend - I like that (although I'm afraid I'm one of the few people round here - I think - who's not keen on Orbison's voice). Still, I would love to hear it- I can just imagine it. I like Richard Hawley's version.
DeleteI've seen The Ghost Of Electricity in others' sidebars, but missed out on that blog, sadly.
The Ghost Of Electricity was ace, much missed.
DeleteI've seen it mentioned a few times recently, what a shame it's no longer active.
DeleteI think Kurt Cobain would have done an excellent version of that Traffic song: imagine the ooh-ooh-ahh bits!
ReplyDeleteI like that!
DeleteAs you know I'm strictly a mainstream popular music kind of girl and not very good at these things where we try and come up with clever suggestions! I will however put on my thinking cap and make a brave attempt. Getting worried that when I finish work I will spend all my time on the blogosphere though - Will have to be very strict with myself whilst sitting in the shedio/garagio!
ReplyDeleteIt just makes it more interesting, Alyson - mix up a song you like with a different artist you like, I'm sure you'd come up with a corker, and Martin would be pleased to see it (as would I!)
DeleteI know what you mean about blogging and strictness, as it's something I have to deal with every day as you can imagine! For me, it's great to have regular breaks when it all gets too much and I need to lift my eyes from my drawing board and come out from my Shedio for air! So I flit over here when I do. I'm in a very busy phase at the moment, have to finish a book by end of next week and working 7 days a week to keep it on schedule, so no time for long thoughtful postings at the moment. However, checking out other blogs and commenting is perfect for my breaktimes. Then when I get a bit more 'normal' time hopefully I'll be able to write more too. I'm sure you'll find the same with your work when it's up to you how to split your time - blogging can be your teatime treat!
Right, off to make that cuppa now :-)
