Walk with me (again)

It's been quite a stressful week seeing the bathroom looking like this

so yesterday evening I needed to get out, on my own.  Just go for a walk.

I nip out the back gate and head down the path.  It's gone 6pm but the sky holds on to the hues of a Summer afternoon

and the corn on the right shimmers in the sunlight

whilst on my left I pass a familiar character, lit up beautifully against the cobalt blue.

Then the path curves gently round the big horse chestnut

and at the bottom I turn right up the bridleway, where the sound of a wren makes me stop to catch the merest sight of its propeller tail before it disappears into the gnarled secret chambers of this gorgeous old tree.

To complete my circuit I turn off to the North... a shadier path...

... at times barely passable and I have to duck under drooping boughs

until I reach a clearing.  I can see my house from here!

Then the furrow in the cornfield leads me back home, with low-swooping swallows and small tortoiseshell butterflies as my ushers.

That feels better.

The only thing missing is the sea!

  1. How odd, i was thinking yesterday to take some photos when i take my dogs out, you gave me the idea a few months back. You got to get yoursef a dog....with walks like that in your vacinity...an everyday pleasure.

    1. Ah yes, please do take some photos and perhaps post them some time too?
I'd quite like a dog sometimes, but I'll just take my camera for walks instead!

  2. I attempted to comment here yesterday but it disappeared; the gist was that it looks great around your part of the world and those trees are particularly lovely. Makes.me want to walk somewhere.myself, so off I go with the old hound.

    1. Thanks SB. Big fan of trees myself. If you're ever over this side of the country, bring your old hound with you - shame we don't have any mountains though!

  6. Very inspirational, much like your previous 'Walk With Me' post. I must take a camera out one day and n̶i̶c̶k̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶r̶ ̶i̶d̶e̶a̶ put together a similar piece. That gnarly tree is incredible.
How far is there to go with the work on the house?

    1. Yes please do, I'd love to see yours - whilst there's nothing like experiencing the real thing I like to see it through the eye of a lens too.

Work on the house... ? Touchy subject at the moment... ! Having a bad day. Just have to remind myself "this too shall pass" and we'll get there in the end. Actually, bathroom is *nearly* done and then there's just the kitchen. (Haha - "just" the kitchen - "JUST"???!!!)
