C'est la vie (ou, c'est la mort?!)
Nice to know that you know the City of London Cemetery too - quite a place, isn't it?
I think it's great that you 'save' those lovely old photos and ephemera from oblivion, as they represent their moments in time so intriguingly for the rest of us and can be surprisingly emotive too. Maybe with the way the world is going, photographing everything and anything, sharing opinions and dull daily habits and making it all public without quality control, it'll be just as well that a lot of it will disappear along with us and our hard drives?!
Chttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02423624920558505937noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6075393268513251879.post-22190007593074026422016-07-29T09:59:05.600+01:002016-07-29T09:59:05.600+01:00So sorry to hear that you've suffered yet anot...So sorry to hear that you've suffered yet another loss this year C. Your post took my mind off in a multitude of directions, not least because several of my own family rest in the City of London Cemetery. Mrs S and I used to live very close to the 34 acre Earlham Road Cemetery in Norwich, which is a bit like a miniature version of the City of London. It contains several older, deliberately unkempt areas, preserved for wildlife. I used to walk around the Earlham Cemetery quite often on a day off, looking at the stones, thinking about the occupants or just enjoying the tranquillity.
Your musings on 'stuff' struck a chord too. I think that's why I enjoy collecting old photos and items of ephemera. I feel like I'm some kind of temporary custodian for these things deemed unimportant by their original owners, or at least by the original owners descendants. One day, the way technology is going, there will be no 'stuff' at all, just digital data. People won't need to write instructions on parcels, like your cab driver's Aunt did. Everything that we own will no doubt be deleted after we pass away.
Lovely to see you back C. As you can see, your writing is as thought provoking as ever! The Swedehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13237251779370596904noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6075393268513251879.post-19626744092798861012016-07-23T10:43:29.723+01:002016-07-23T10:43:29.723+01:00Thanks Marie, yes I agree, they are often beautifu...Thanks Marie, yes I agree, they are often beautiful, peaceful places.Chttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02423624920558505937noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6075393268513251879.post-426343946236581692016-07-22T14:30:21.987+01:002016-07-22T14:30:21.987+01:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6075393268513251879.post-65899912011958725392016-07-21T22:03:55.747+01:002016-07-21T22:03:55.747+01:00Thanks CC, I'm still sorry though that I haven...Thanks CC, I'm still sorry though that I haven't been attending to yours and everyone else's blogs and hope I can get around to more soon.
